Urban Laboratory: Changing Cities
If you're passionate about these questions, join fellow student teachers, trainees, and educators in our hybrid seminar "Changing Cities" in spring 2025! Together, we'll explore how to inspire change in our communities and classrooms.
Our seminar will consist of three phases:
1. Preparatory phase with online meetings.
This first phase is all about getting to know each other and diving into the contents of the seminar.
We will have two online meetings, which will take place via Zoom on:
Friday, March 07: 16:00-17:30 CET
Friday, March 28: 16:00-17:30 CET
In between those two meetings, you will work on two short online learning modules which will allow you to familiarise yourself with the main questions and problems that we will address together. The first module will provide an overview of the challenges European cities are facing in the 21st century, addressing issues such as climate change and urban injustice. The second module will briefly introduce the concept of transformative education, which will serve as a basis for the didactical perspective of our seminar.
2. Workshop in Cologne.
On April 04-05, 2025, we will welcome you at the Institute of Geography in Cologne for the main part of our seminar.
On our first day, we will be out in “the field” to explore a neighbourhood that has recently experienced a positive change towards more sustainability and liveability. This should serve as an inspiration for our second day, where we will work on a hands-on project to develop concrete ideas for the transformation of another neighbourhood.
Friday, April 04: 14:00-18:00 CET
Saturday, April 05: 09:00-16:00 CET
3. Project phase with concluding online meeting.
After our workshop in Cologne, you will have the opportunity to implement what you have learnt by designing a learning opportunity for a (real or potential) project with a class in your hometown. We will meet on:
Friday, May 09: 2025 16:00-17:30 CET for a presentation of all the projects and a reflection on the seminar as a whole.
Max. number of participants: 30
