Sign up now for our hybrid compact seminar “Teaching Climate Change”!
Who can participate?
- student teachers (during their Bachelor, Master or PhD programmes)
- teacher trainees
- in-service teachers
**PLEASE NOTE: the tool used in the seminar is designed to teach 15-18 year-old pupils (upper secondary grades)**
What can participants expect from the seminar?
Since we are expecting participants from all over Europe, the entire seminar will be held in English.
As a hybrid compact seminar, it will divided into threedifferent phases (partly online; see below), finishing with an on-site event in beautiful Nantes (France).
Over the course of the seminar, you will have the opportunity to:
- learn how to introduce the topic Climate Change to pupils;
- analyse an existing teaching tool and its use in European classrooms;
- create your own material to teach Climate Change in your classroom;
- exchange your experience with teaching Climate Change with international participants;
- reflect on your own experience and be inspired by others' experiences and teaching.
Who is organising the seminar?
Within the teff project (teff-academy.eu), colleagues from Nantes University / Inspé Nantes (France), have developed this seminar based on previous experience and the aim to make Climate Change a significant topic in classrooms across Europe.
When and where does it take place?
As a compact seminar, the seminar is divided into 3 phases:
1st phase(online training) | October 8 & 9, 2024 two half-days of training online (Zoom), each from 3-6pm (CET) | During the online training, we will present to you an existing teaching tool for tackling the problem of climate change and analyse its possible use in classrooms together. |
2nd phase(testing period) | testing-period from November 2024 until February 2025 | During the 2nd phase, you can then use said tool for your own classes or create your own tool (on the basis of observations and/or with analysis tools we will introduce to you). You will put together material and testimonials from your own classrooms (i.e. productions of your pupils, a short class video or a few lines about your experience, …) and send it to the colleagues in Nantes before the 3rd phase. **Please note** For this phase, you will need a class/group of pupils to implement a lesson or a short lesson series (e.g. your own class or a class you're interning in). You will need to arrange this yourself; if you are having trouble with this, please contact us before you register and we will see what we can do. It is also possible for a teacher and a student teacher to sign up as a team!) |
3rd phase(on-site meeting) | March 14 & 15, 2025 (Friday 2-5pm (CET) to Sat 9.30 - 12.30am (CET)) two half-days in Nantes (France) of feedback/reflection/sharing material | The 3rd phase will take place on-site in Nantes; here, we are going to analyse the material you handed in in phase 2. Together and supported by analysis tools, we will reflect on everyone's teaching experience and learnings: Did your implementation enable pupils to think critically? What did they learn? etc. |
